Our Mission
Our mission as a congregation at Life in Christ is simple. We want to:
Live and Grow in Christ — Encourage and Reach Others
Live = Worship
God gives life through Word and sacraments. Where do we find these things? In worship, of course! We come before Jesus with heads bowed, confessing our sins, and Jesus speaks His forgiveness. We sit before Jesus, as did Mary, and hang onto every Word that is read from Scripture and proclaimed from the pulpit. We kneel before Jesus, by His invitation and at His table, to receive His body and blood. Fortified by Word and Sacraments, we live for Christ.
Grow = Study
God grows our faith as we spend time studying His Word. Paul reminded Timothy, “and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” Whether it be in Bible class or Sunday School, a study during the week or through your own personal time of reading and reflection, we grow in faith in Christ, by the Holy Spirit, as we make the study of His Word a priority in our lives.
Encourage = Service
God enables us to encourage others. James, the brother of Jesus wrote, “Do not merely listen to the Word, and deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Are not people encouraged when you serve a meal at a rescue mission? Are not children encouraged when you take time to give them attention and read them a story? LICL offers many opportunities to show God’s mercy to others. As we participate in such opportunities we encourage others in Christ.
Reach = Witnessing
God commissions us to witness to others. Matthew 28:19 begins with the imperative: “GO!” Peter writes, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” Clearly, our community and world won’t know of Jesus unless we speak of the difference He has made in our lives. Our challenge is to be prepared and ready to witness the hope we have in Christ Jesus.
